"It was a really fun project for a cool, young family" says the designer Courtney McLeod. "The [reception room] level is usually the prettiest and most formal floor in these brownstones, but when my clients wanted something formal, they did not want it to be a space never use." Because the house had undergone a modern renovation before the couple bought the historical details were devastated and felt the cold space. They wanted to bring back the tradition and warmth
Some of the favorite things of the couple, including a colorful abstract painting and painted wardrobe seen here -. A family heirloom - helped the designer to determine the vivid color palette. " Using primary colors - red, yellow and blue - is which gives this room such a happy feeling, stylish fun," she said.
McLeod also helped the couple to find design compromises. He loves midcentury modern as she likes a new traditional look and combining styles created interesting juxtapositions throughout the space.
For example, McLeod shopped home to some of the pieces, grabbing the antique desk and Eames cylinder different pieces of shell and matching chair. "This is an excellent example of compromise that we made between the traditional and midcentury styles," she said. She also used carpets from the collection of the couple, tying them together via a diamond pattern repeat.
So he wanted the convenience ceiling fans and she wanted chandeliers, the breeze won out.
When I mentioned to McLeod that if this room had a large crystal chandelier in the center, I would swear it was a room in New Orleans, she laughed and said: "I am in New Orleans! "

the mirror is just the right size for the space and adds a glamorous touch, worthy of its place next to the cabinet. "The two pieces are exotic, but you can not quite place," says McLeod. "The mirror is a little Greek, kind of chinoiserie, and it adds a little sparkle to the space."

the second area is in the center of the space - seating area formal for entertainment, marked by a favorite abstract painting torque. McLeod chose a soft cream carpet for this region. " I brought a neutral carpet here to differentiate it from the rest of space; I also felt the blue and yellow fat in the upholstery and red in the artwork would really shine on a lighter background , "says t- she. The carpet has a smaller scale, more subtle diamond pattern woven into it.
The deep cobalt blue sofa picks up on the colors in the paint. McLeod found online second hand sofa and had reupholstered in shiny velvet. "It is so, strong deep color, but it is soothing and not very strong," she said.

some of that hoped chandelier arrived in the form of a yellow light midcentury Italian glass in the hallway area. Another yellow room, the meridian, bridges the gap between spaces. Its low profile makes the flow, and color relationships in the cabinet and abstract painting.
The meridian is another merger of its and its styles. While the upholstery and the style is more traditional, the yellow upholstery nods to modern Midcentury Tweedy. "It's so fun to see the use - it is really great and just like a living through everything," says McLeod

the sofa and chair center on this coffee table. "the table is great because it has the weight, but it is clear, "says McLeod. "In addition, they can change the look by swapping what they post on the inside."
The buffet has a midcentury look, but it is new; he elegantly floats over fine leg. The magazine rack on the right is a vintage piece of midcentury modern iconic French designer Jacques Adnet. "He brought in this style and a bit of black and leather," said the designer. All crystal is another family heirloom.

McLeod was happy that his clients went to the historic 'Strawberry Thief' William Morris fabric on the cushion. "It's perfect - it brings a historical print from the 1880s and it has just the right colors and lots of movement is a great juxtaposition next to the art." Says McLeod.

the last and most relaxed part of the space is the TV room. The designer worked with the existing terms of customers sofa, bringing color and warmth they like a mix of prints, including William Morris, a crewelwork fabric Kravet and some geometric cushions off-the-shelf. She also added a few extra shots to cosiness. Barcelona brings a chair in another room midcentury modern and adds leather texture palette here.
McLeod has also found a way to use modern and fans always get in some glittering chandeliers. The twins hanging lamps were a great discovery that catch the eye on the beautiful garden at the back of the couple.
The key to such an exuberant mix? "You must have a plan, but also a bit of luck," says McLeod. "You have to know where to mix and when to stop."
I would add that there must be something in the water that makes the designers of New Orleans can mix colors, textures and styles with such an atmosphere.
